Humanity has a tendency to be drawn to the unknown. Beyond fear, which grips infants and adults alike, there is an allure to the macabre. To understand the impossible, to give a face to the invisible, and form to the formless; goals of instinct.
Through MONSTROS there will be an illumination to some of the creatures that inhabit the darkest recesses of Latin America’s collective psyche. These legends range from by-products interpreting nature’s most inexplicable to superstitions concerning the paranormal that have been passed down through generations.
MONSTROS incorporates Pre-Colombian myths and legends, with contemporary “monsters” to visually highlight Latino folklore. Comprised of a diverse artistic coalition with techniques ranging from works on paper, prints, paintings and multimedia. The exhibit seeks to explore and educate through these legends that have become an intrinsic part of our history.Words by:
